ABNORMALITIES IN THE SIZE OF THE GESTATIONAL SAC

Early gestational sac growth parallels embryonic growth. Discriminatory sac size refers to the critical size of the gestational sac at which a yolk sac or fetal pole should be visualized. Abnormally large sacs are transvaginally:

Small Gestational Sac:

  • Gestational sac - 4 wks 6 days
  • Embryo – 6 wks 4 days.
  • Mean sac size – CRL = 8 mm-6 mm = 2 mm (Normal 5 mm or greater)
  • Fetal heart seen.
