CHEEK-TO-CHEEK DIAMETER

Cheek-to-cheek diameter has been demonstrated to be directly correlated to gestational age (1).

Cheek-to-cheek diameter / Biparietal diameter ratio = 0.6-0.74 between 20-41 weeks gestation (virtually age independent).

ULTRASOUND

• Fetal cheeks can be identified sonographically in either an axial or coronal plane.
• Normal Cheek
• The corpus adiposum buccae, Bichat's fat pad can be clearly identified (2).
• Normal Cheek-To-Cheek Values
• Values increased in Large for gestational age fetuses and fetuses of diabetic mothers.
