UMBILICAL CORD CYSTS

Classification of umbilical cord cysts:

1. True cysts – Thin walled anechoic cystic structures within the umbilical cord, separate

from the yolk sac.

- No flow on color or power Doppler imaging.

- May be axial or paraxial in relation to the long axis of the umbilical cord.

• Amniotic inclusion cysts.
• Omphalomesenteric duct cysts (vitelline duct).
• Allantoic cysts.

2. Pseudocysts.

Differential diagnosis of a partially cystic mass in the umbilical cord.
