Normal left sided aortic arch

Right sided aortic arch:

TYPES:

  • with aberrant LEFT subclavian artery (5% have CHD)
    • most common type of right arch
    • second most common cause of vascular ring
  • with mirror image branching (95% associated with CHD)
  • with isolated left subclavian artery

The trachea is not present on the right hand side of the aorta and pulmonary artery, but lies between them or very rarely to their left.

This appearance results in the normal “V “ configuration changing to a “U” configuration.
